Emergency Travel Document

Emergency Travel Document

If an Italian citizen finds himself/herself in an emergency situation (e.g. a tourist must depart from Ireland and he/she has lost his/her passport or it was stolen) and there is no time to start the procedure for the issuing of a new passport, the Consular Office will issue a provisional travel document (ETD European Travel Document). The latter is only valid for 5 days from the date of issue and can only be used to travel to Italy or to another European country if you formally live there.

In order to obtain this document, it is necessary to come to the Consular Office of this Embassy with the following documents:

  • police report in the case of loss or theft of the passport or of another travel document lodged at the Consular Office, in accordance with articles of law 46 and 47 following the instructions of article of law 76 DPR 445/2000;
  • two photographs of the applicant (identical, frontal view, in color, 35x40 mm);
  • tickets for the return trip of the applicant;
  • €1.55.

Please note that this service can not always be provided on non working days, holiday days, or in some cases on the days before these because the Embassy will be closed. Therefore, the procedure may be done later on a working day, if it is not an emergency.
