Professor Enrico Giovannini – Italian economist, statistician and academic from the University of Rome \u2018Tor Vergata\u2019 and President\u00a0\u00a0of the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS) – delivered on June 19th in Dublin Eurofound’s third Annual Lecture, entitled ‘Living and working in Europe – Rethinking progress for a sustainable and equitable future’.<\/p>\n

The event – organized also thanks to the cooperation of the Italian Embassy in Dublin – took place on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Eurofound (the EU Agency for the improvement of living and working conditions, based in Dublin) in the beautiful setting of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and was opened by Thomas Byrne TD, Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, and Ivailo Kalfin, Eurofound’s Executive Director.<\/p>\n

In his lecture Professor Giovannini – who was also President of the Italian Institute of Statistics (Istat) and Chief Statistician at OECD – explored the measurement of wellbeing, and how Sustainable and Inclusive Wellbeing is a key metric for European progress.
\nProf Giovannini – former Italian Minister of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility and Minister of Labour and Social Policies – also discussed the responsibility of policymakers in achieving both intragenerational and intergenerational advancements, stressing the importance of balancing long-term objectives with immediate political and economic concerns and with the current drive to enhance European competitiveness globally.<\/p>\n
