{"id":6869,"date":"2026-07-24T11:17:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T09:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambdublino.esteri.it\/?p=6869"},"modified":"2026-07-24T15:37:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T13:37:30","slug":"6869","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambdublino.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/07\/6869\/","title":{"rendered":"PAIRING CEREMONY BETWEEN ITALY AND COUNTY MEATH AS PART OF THE IRISH PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"297\"><strong data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"14\">On 23 July<\/strong>, the Italian Ambassador to Dublin, <strong data-start=\"50\" data-end=\"70\">Nicola Faganello<\/strong>, took part in a ceremony organized by <strong data-start=\"109\" data-end=\"133\">Meath County Council<\/strong> (northeast Ireland) to celebrate the twinning initiative between Italy and County Meath, held as part of Ireland&#8217;s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"299\" data-end=\"745\">The ceremony, which opened with the raising of the Irish, European Union, and Italian flags, was attended by Ambassador Faganello; <strong data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"446\">Sarah Reilly<\/strong>, Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council; <strong data-start=\"487\" data-end=\"504\">Helen McEntee<\/strong>, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade; <strong data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"571\">Thomas Byrne<\/strong>, Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence; <strong data-start=\"625\" data-end=\"649\">Elizabeth McCullough<\/strong>, Ambassador of Ireland to Italy; and <strong data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"703\">Kieran Kehoe<\/strong>, Chief Executive of Meath County Council.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"747\" data-end=\"985\">At the conclusion of the ceremony, Cathaoirleach Sarah Reilly planted a tree together with the Italian and Irish authorities present as a symbolic expression of the strong bond of friendship and cooperation between Italy and County Meath.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"987\" data-end=\"1326\">In his remarks, Ambassador Faganello emphasized that the twinning initiative is firmly rooted in the longstanding cultural, religious, and educational ties between Italy and County Meath. In particular, he recalled the figure of <strong data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1236\">Saint Columbanus<\/strong>, the Irish missionary monk who founded the <strong data-start=\"1280\" data-end=\"1299\">Abbey of Bobbio<\/strong>, near Piacenza, in AD 614.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1328\" data-end=\"1685\">Ambassador Faganello also highlighted the strength of bilateral relations in the fields of culture and education, noting the many local students studying Italian at <strong data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1512\">Ratoath College<\/strong> in County Meath, as well as the ongoing exchange programmes with a partner school in Parma, which help strengthen ties between the younger generations of the two countries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1687\" data-end=\"2129\">The speeches delivered by the participating authorities also repeatedly reaffirmed the importance of citizens and local communities in the European integration process and in promoting EU values.
