On June 4, the Italian Research Day in Ireland was held in Dublin, attended by over 80 Italian researchers from leading Irish universities and research centers.

The initiative, held for the first time in Ireland, was organized by the Italian Embassy in Dublin in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC). The aim is to foster mutual understanding, dialogue, and collaboration among Italian researchers in Ireland, thus creating a point of reference for them, their Irish counterparts, and Italian academic and business institutions, and to promote the Italian research and innovation system worldwide.

After an introduction by IIC Director Michela Magrì, the event opened with a speech by the Italian Ambassador to Dublin, Nicola Faganello, followed by five interdisciplinary sessions in which Professors Silvia Giordani (DCU – recently awarded OMRI Officer), Marco Bellardi (UCD), Goran Dominioni (DCU), Massimiliano Mascherini (Eurofound), and Valeria Nicolosi (Trinity College) illustrated some of their current research lines to the audience. The event featured engaging presentations and Q&As, ranging from nanotechnologies, nanomaterials, and maritime decarbonization to 20th-century literature and analysis of the EU labor market.

That same evening, Italian Republic Day celebrations were held at St Helen’s Hotel in Dublin, attended by over 300 guests, including Irish authorities, the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the Italian and local business communities. During his remarks, Ambassador Faganello emphasized the historic importance of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, the celebrations for which will continue in the coming days with events also in Cork and Galway.
