The Italian Ambassador to Dublin, Nicola Faganello, paid a visit on Monday, November 3, to the Irish headquarters of Intel—the U.S. multinational leader in the semiconductor industry, located in Leixlip, northwest of Dublin. Since 1989, Intel has invested over 30 billion euros in Ireland, creating the most advanced industrial campus in Europe, which has had a highly significant impact on both the local and national economy. In 2023 alone, Intel generated 0.7% of Ireland’s GDP, created nearly 20,000 indirect jobs, and supported 1,115 Irish suppliers.  Today, the Leixlip campus employs 4,900 people across Ireland (including many Italians) and is one of the few sites worldwide producing Intel’s leading process technologies while also developing low-power artificial intelligence technologies and software. During the visit, the Ambassador, accompanied by Chiara Giorgini, head of the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) Desk at the Embassy in Dublin, was welcomed by Factory Manager Joe English and Engineer Stefano Sellitto of Intel Ireland. He also met with a large group of Italian engineers working at the site. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange professional experiences, discuss the consular service needs of Italian personnel at Intel, and reflect on innovation and the future of Italian talent abroad.
