Yesterday, May 25, the Italian Ambassador to Ireland, Nicola Faganello, together with Michela Magrì, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Dublin, visited the historic and prestigious headquarters of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI), overlooking St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of the Irish capital. Founded as Ireland’s national surgical training institution, the RCSI is a not-for-profit professional medical and educational institution, a world-leading and innovative university of health sciences, and has been at the forefront of healthcare education and research since 1784.
Upon their arrival, Ambassador Faganello and Director Magrì were welcomed by RCSI President Professor Deborah McNamara and Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Professor Fergal O’Brien. They were accompanied by Dr. Marco Monopoli, Senior Lecturer, Professor Mauro Adamo of the Department of Chemistry, and Professor Gianpiero Cavalleri, Associate Professor of Human Genetics.
After a detailed and fascinating guided tour of the prestigious building that has housed RCSI since 1810, the Ambassador and Dr. Magrì met with a large representation of Italians who research, study, teach, or work in various RCSI departments, including: Chemistry, the Neuroscience Research Center of the Future, Anatomy, the Regenerative Tissue Engineering Group (TERG), Physiology, Surgery, Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, and Research and Innovation.
It was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and educational, professional, and personal journeys, and to lay the foundation for future collaborations with both the Embassy and the IIC, as well as with Italian academic and research institutions, particularly in the health sciences sector.
