Electronic Identity Card (CIE) replacing the paper identity card

Please be informed that, as of 3 August 2026, the paper identity card will no longer be valid for travel abroad.

Italian citizens regularly resident within this consular jurisdiction who are still in possession of a paper identity card are therefore invited to apply for the Electronic Identity Card (CIE), which will replace the paper version.

Applications may be submitted by sending an e-mail to ambdublino.cie@esteri.it, attaching the following documentation:

• Completed and signed application form (CLICK HERE);

• Copy of a valid identity document.

Please note that the above service is exclusively reserved for the replacement of the paper identity card. All other appointment requests for the issuance of an Electronic Identity Card (CIE), including new applications or renewals of an existing CIE, must be made through the Prenot@Mi portal.
