The criminal record certificate is a document that contains the list of criminal convictions of a citizen who resident in Italy. The Legislative Decree No. 122/2018, incorporated the criminal certificate and the civil certificate into the criminal record certificate, also containing the possible registration or non-registration in the European criminal record. These certificates can be requested from the Tribunal “in Italy”, regardless of the place of birth or current residence.
Embassies cannot issue or request the Criminal Certificate. It must be requested independently by the interested parties, or by a person delegated by them, to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Italy (Tribunale).
All these certificates are valid for a maximum of six months from the date of issue.
Some Public Prosecutor’s Offices have postal procedures for issuing these certificates for those who are abroad. Interested parties are invited to contact the competent offices directly to obtain information in this regard.
Italian citizens registered with AIRE who need the legalization of the translation of the criminal certificate, will be able to request certification of conformity of the translation into English from the Notary Office of this Consulate, according to the procedures on the translation and legalization of documents (CLICK HERE)
