The IX edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World (Settimana della Cucina italiana nel Mondo) will take place in Ireland from Monday, 18th November to Sunday, 24th November, 2024.
Presented by the Embassy of Italy in Ireland, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the Italian-Irish Chamber of Commerce, the Italian National Tourist Board and the Italian Institute of Culture, the 2024 theme is “Mediterranean Diet and the Recipes from Our Roots: Health and Tradition”. This edition in Ireland will present the scientific benefits of the Mediterranean Diet with a special focus on truffles, an ingredient that embodies Italy’s gastronomic excellence and deep-rooted cultural traditions. This year’s edition in Ireland will be sponsored by San Pellegrino Waters and Caratti Giancarlo (truffles).
The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, with more than 10,000 initiatives organized in the past 8 years among 100 countries, is an international annual event for food lovers to celebrate Italian cuisine all around the world. The Week of Italian Cuisine is also an important business opportunity to promote Italian agri-food in the Irish market in the context of trade between Italy and Ireland which grew by 26% in 2023, reaching almost a value of €11 billion. With regards to the first semester 2024, total Italian export of agri food products to Ireland has passed 128 ml euro (+9,7% with respect to the same period of the previous year). The Italian importation of Irish agri-food products has also slightly grown by +0,4%.
MOVIE (18TH NOVEMBER 2024 at 6:30 PM)
For this year’s edition, the inaugural event will be the screening of “The Truffle Hunters”, at the Odeon Point Square Cinema, E Wall Rd, North Wall, Dublin, on Monday, 18th November from 6:30 p.m.. The movie will be preceded by an insightful introduction on truffles and ecosystem conservation by Mr. Omar Lapecia from Slow Food Alta Marca Trevigiana. The movie will be followed by an enjoyable Italian truffle-based Aperitivo for all participants. Tickets to attend the screening are available for free here .
CONFERENCE (19TH NOVEMBER 2024 at 5:00 PM)
One of the key events of the week will be a conference on the “Mediterranean Diet and the Recipes from Our Roots: Health and Tradition” on 19th November 2024 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Hyatt Centric Hotel, Dublin, with the participation of prominent scholars, chefs, journalists and nutrition experts to discuss the role of the Mediterranean diet in health protection and its proven ability to prevent diseases. The conference will be followed by a presentation by Dr. Alessia Verri (University of Turin) on Truffles: a national resource and global brand. On the side-lines of the event, guests will have the opportunity to interact with the modular exhibition “Scent of Italy: The Truffle”. A light dinner, based on truffles, and Italian wines will be served afterwards. By invitation only. Confirmation required due to limited seating.
ITALIAN RESTAURANTS
Finally, throughout the whole week, food lovers and enthusiasts interested in savouring the finest Italian cuisine will have the opportunity to taste unique menus including truffle based dishes along with typical regional Italian products prepared by various Italian restaurants in Ireland who are participating in the initiative such as Pinocchio (Dublin), Dunne & Crescenzi (Dublin), Crudo (Dublin), Bar Italia (Dublin), Il Vicolo (Galway).
