The Emergency Travel Document (ETD) is a temporary travel document valid for 5 days from the date of issue.
It can be issued in the event of theft or loss of a passport or identity card and used only for the return to Italy or to the EU member state in which the applicant has permanent residence proven by the AIRE registration.
The presence of the applicant is required (infants and minors included).
Documentation required for issuing an ETD
Application for Adults:
- 2 x identical and recent passport size photographs (taken no more than 6 months ago), compliant with ICAO international standards;
- In case of loss/theft of the document, a copy of the report made to An Garda Siochana.
- copy of an identification document, even if lost or damaged (identity card or passport) containing the photo and signature. Even a valid driving license has an identifying value;
- in the absence of any identification document, the presence of a witness is required, with an identity document, who is able to identify the applicant under his own responsibility;
- copy of the travel document (flight ticket), with departure date within 5 days of the ETD request;
Applications for Minors:
- 2 x identical and recent passport size photographs (acquired no more than 6 months ago), compliant with ICAO international standards;
- In case of loss/theft of the document, a copy of the report made to An Garda Siochana.
- identification document with photo and signature of both parents;
- in the absence of any identification document, the presence of an adult witness with an identity document is required, who is able to identify the applicant under his own responsibility;
- copy of the travel document, with departure date within 5 days of the ETD request.
