Civil status

Civil status

The Civil Status Office deals with the registration in Italy of birth certificates, marriage certificates, same-sex civil union documents and divorce decrees relating to Italian citizens, issued by the British authorities and sends them to the Italian Municipalities for transcription.

The certificates are sent for transcription to the Municipality of AIRE registration (Municipality of last residence in Italy).

In the particular case of the transcription of divorce decrees, if the marriage was celebrated in Italy, the divorce decree will be sent to the municipality where the marriage was celebrated.

The online service for requesting certificates from Italian municipalities is active

From 15 November 2021, the new service for requesting digital certifications from Italian municipalities was activated for all those registered in the registry office, both resident in Italy and AIRE members, and for their family members. The service is available through the website www.anagrafenazionale.gov.it which can be accessed via SPID credentials, Electronic Identity Card (CIE) or National Services Card (CNS).
By accessing your user desk, it will also be possible to view the data recorded in your municipality and possibly request their correction. The operating guide for citizens is available at https://sc.anpr.interno.it/serviziCittadino/dist/docs/guida_richiesta_certificato.pdf , with indications for accessing and using the various services.
